Grief & Loss

About Grief Therapy

In a culture which does not recognize or know how to be with grief, those who are grieving are often left feeling shame or guilt for their experience. Grievers can feel isolated, alone, and stigmatized. And grief that is not allowed space or movement creates harm not only to the griever, but to families, and communities as well.

The truth is that what we love we grieve. Each are a reflection of the other. And the invitation is to stay connected to the love while feeling, expressing, and falling into the truth of loss. This often is experienced physically, mentally, spiritually, socially, interpersonally, and existentially. Grief cannot be rushed.

Grieving intentionally and consciously is a skill that many of us need to learn. And grief’s terrain is wide. While something both learned and discovered, the capacity of grief is to connect us to ourselves, our relationships, and to life in a deeper, more honest manner. Its invitation is to orient us towards truth, compassion, and connection. And teaches us allowance and capacity in the most difficult of waters which can be ferocious, isolating, and overwhelming. Waters that can subsume. Waters that can be confusing, confrontational, bewildering. This can be a hard won, messy, and imperfect journey. An endurance event. On our way we need support, nourishment, and capacity
towards orienting to this new way of living. This new life which wasn’t asked for, but which is. And how we can carry the many accompanying emotions forward in a way that is generative.

To grieve openly is to learn to stay, to allow, to listen, to be shaped, and to love in ways that are deep and connective. It is our honor to meet you here.
