In my own journey with depression, anxiety, grief and trauma I have turned time and again to my body as a source of wisdom and grounding. I have experienced first-hand the inextricable interconnection between the body and the mind– what we think affects how we feel and visa versa. My lens for insight and healing includes the body with its unique way of moving, sensing and responding, in partnership with the mind that houses our thoughts, perceptions, feelings and beliefs.
I have nearly 30 years of experience as a movement artist, educator, and therapist, including a certification in movement analysis, an MFA in dance, and an active, evolving personal practice of body-based mindfulness practices including yoga, movement meditation, mindful walking and breath work. I hold a master’s degree in social work through the University of Denver and am a licensed social worker in the state of Colorado.
I work primarily with adults who are seeking support for issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, ADHD, adjustment and transition difficulties, relationship and parenting issues, managing emotions, and generally coping with the challenges that life presents.
My approach is client-centered, strengths-based, and compassionate. I provide validation for your unique experience, DBT-informed skills coaching, EMDR trauma resolution work, insight development practices, and mindfulness tools to help you develop skillful ways of moving toward the change you want to see in your life.
I also offer Integrated Movement Therapy in individual, semi-private and small group formats.
This may include:
- gentle, trauma-sensitive yoga and breathing;
- Authentic Movement practice to access and witness what’s present in the body;
exploration of ingrained movement patterns of response, resistance, resilience and
release; - tracking the expression of an experience with movement and words;
- guided movement practices to gently bring awareness and intention into the experience
of being in our bodies.
I see individual clients on a sliding scale basis.
