General Questions about Therapy or Counseling

How can therapy or counseling help me?
Individuals often seek therapy to resolve painful feelings, troubling thoughts, and distressing situations.

Through therapy, our clients learn practical ways of coping with grief, stress, depression, anger, and much more. They are able to better understand themselves, their strengths and weaknesses, their relationships, needs, and patterns.

The results include a more purposeful and satisfying experience of life.

How long will I be in treatment?

The length of time needed to address your needs and meet your goals varies from person to person, and issue to issue. In some cases, progress can be made in a short period. Other times, an individual can benefit from long-term counseling or therapy.

We can provide more information about the suggested length of treatment after your first session.

What is the first session like?
Your first session will create a time and space for you to meet your therapist. During the first session, you will discuss your goals and have an opportunity to ask any questions that may be on your mind.

If you are feeling nervous about talking to a therapist, this is a good opportunity to break the ice. The goal of the session is to instill a sense of safety and comfort.

Do you offer a telehealth option?

Telehealth services are offered through our online HIPPA compliant electronic platform. We are only able to provide telehealth services to clients who live in Colorado.

What are your COVID-19 protocols?

All providers at RFC are vaccinated and we recognize that many of our clients are as well. We still kindly request that everyone wear a mask in our waiting room in order to respect the health and safety of everyone. If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness please do not come to session but inform your clinician and determine other options that might meet your needs. All of our providers are able to work via video.

Confidentiality

Is what we discuss in counseling or therapy confidential?

Your therapy is confidential except under specific circumstances. When the safety of you or someone else is threatened, your therapist may need to report it. Specifically, your therapist must report:

  • Actual or suspected child or elder abuse
  • Threats of serious harm to another person
  • An intention or plan to harm yourself
